Healthy Foods Access

To support PCRI’s mission of provide access to and advocacy for services for our residents, PCRI has engaged in a community-driven initiative to develop strategies which address food access issues and effectively advocate for increased healthy foods access for our residents.  While food insecurity is more than just a local issue (check out the video below from Sesame Street), we’re doing our part to combat the challenge in our communities.

The Healthy Foods Access Initiative is a collaboration with Hacienda CDC and the Native American Youth and Family Center funded by a Convergence Partnership grant through the Northwest Health Foundation.

In the first phase of this initiative PCRI and our partners will conduct research and develop an action plan to improve nutritional options within low‐income communities of color in north and northeast Portland.  In concert with these partner organizations, we have been meeting with and surveying residents about food access barriers, resources and needs.  We are also exploring job-creation opportunities related to increasing healthy foods access and promotion.

PCRI greatly values our other Healthy Foods Access Initiative partners, including: Portland Community College, Cascade Campus, GroceryCart PDX, Central Northeast Neighbors, Sam Six, Oregon Public Health Institute and our numerous amazing volunteers who make this possible!
